I think losing weight is hard, but I find it easy to do other things people may say are hard for them. I often wonder how people have the drive to blindly follow dreams with no plan. I am a planner, I am an over analyzing, researching non-stop, forever learner type of girl. I like to assume I got this from my father, who is a hobbyist farmer who self teaches himself things for his farm, for his live stock, and so on. He is has his amazing day job, but he still works so hard to grow his farm. It is what he loves, and he is the soil analyst, vet, and basic mechanic. He never seems to give up, and always has an article for you to read to expand your thoughts or just inform you of something he found that was new and cool.
Working hard on your goals.
Now farmers are some of the hardest working people I know. I feel like I have met a lot of different people in my travels, studies, and just daily life. I am that person that strikes up a conversation with people and gets to know your life story. I get that little gift from my mother. There are people who work hard, and still never get anywhere. Looking at their mistakes, and how to work harder.
Trying harder is not always the answer.
So, in talking with a friend she was talking about her “failures” and mistakes. When asking her plan, she reviewed she was just going to try harder. I found this funny. If you worked really hard the first time, trying harder is a silly answer. You already tried, and it did not work out. Why are things not working for us? Well, usually because when we put our mind to something we can look at the WHAT we want to do. We tend to get caught up in the fresh new goal, full of emotion and excitement.
You think you thought about the HOW, but you didn’t. Not really.
HOW are you going to accomplish your goal?
We built my goal earlier this week with what and why-
Here’s my example:
My what? Participate in my Challenge group every day My why? Losing weight, getting healthy (losing 50 lbs. long-term) How will I do that? I am working with my coach and the accountability group. It is my team, she is my advisor. Her knowledge of diet, exercise, and motivation have already helped me in the last two months during my diet bets. I started talking to friends about my goals. I opened up more about why this is really important to me to do this now. I worked hard to get out my cast so I can incorporate exercise again. I bought new lower impact workouts that I can do from home around my schedule. Those are my quick HOW examples.
If you want to get something done, don’t just trust your hard work, trust your HOW work too.
Today’s assignment is to write down three answers to this question:
HOW will you accomplish your goal?
