Tinkerbell Half Marathon Packing list

Packing list for runDisney’s Tinkerbell Half Marathon! *Updated after 3 RunDisney events 2017*

2017 Nothing is sponsored or given to me- all things I love, buy, and a brief packing list.

So, I posted earlier about how I am walking again, and terrified about hurting myself here. Well, if I did not say that directly I meant to.. I am TERRIFIED! I had great information come my way in emails and comments from my post here about Tinkerbell though, so that gave me motivation to start packing today!

To start I would do a vlog of my whole suitcase, but  people would judge me for packing in a fashion that would be worthy of Hoarders episode,  so sticking with some of my race necessities not my life ones!

Number one- KT tape! OR something similar.

Kt tape is magic. It has magical properties. I ran my 10k with it in Las Vegas at midnight, and it lasted a few days even with pool time, but the amazing thing was I had ZERO Plantar Faciitis pain, while the rest of the time it was rearing its ugly PF head. KT Tape is MAGIC for me. Not for everyone, but it is a love/must for me. Seriously though, it works like a light weight brace, has 100’s of applications for lots of athletic injuries, and works with stabilizing your muscles and tendons etc.

 Number 2: Skin Strong SLATHER

I have heard of many products like this, and last year the thing that got me the most during Princess Half 2013, was the BLISTERS. I chafed in unfortunate place due to my asthma inhaler, but it was so not the climate I am used to- and I refuse to get blisters and chafing again. So I am going to SLATHER which can treat or prevent and is endorsed by a lot of my favorite people online, and athletes too. update Not only did this work during my Tinkerbell half marathon, it works wonders as a post run treatment if you happen to chafe* I used this for Princess 2014 with AMAZING success as well!

 Number 3: NUUN

Now I have struggled with electrolyte balance. I tend to run low sodium in my blood. Which is not good for a functioning body. Last year I was so dehydrated I drank a TON of water on the course at Princess, but it didn’t help me.  NUUN is sugar free, electrolyte filled, and has tons of natural flavor options. I need Nuun in my life. Or coconut water if your reading in 2017

Number 4- Samples! I save all this kinda stuff for when I travel.

For a 3 day trip it isn’t ideal to bring the giant bottle that I would be sad to leave behind if it came to souvenir or bio-freeze. Since I struggled so much in my first runDisney half marathon I made sure I had back up stuff in my Sparkle skirt which could hold all of this and more, just in case I need something else 🙂

Number 5: Princess Gear

I made little runner care packages for my friends doing Tink and Princess with me, and had to get one of the collapsible water bottles for myself! I plan to put my NUUN in there and this be the emergency NUUN source, while only utilizing the water stops on the course. * This did not work. at all. Tested prior to running it held zero fluid. So I carried a bottle of Nuun and it saved me. My hand also cramped. Next time Nuun tablets and a belt to hold fluids.. *

Number 6: The last one- and it is for POST race.

One of these bad boys seems to always do the trick for me! There are other opinions out there for post race medication, check with your doctor on what is best for you. If you take any medication during the race or even post race you have to be so careful with your liver ? or kidney? IDK my doctor warned me I obviously only took the scary part to heart.

I realize this should be titled “What I will be packing in my Sparkle Skirt while racing” post, so here is like I will be bringing otherwise!

  • Vacation clothes based on weather- Capri’s, comfy tops, a sundress maybe for dinner!
  • Extra running shoes for walking around or if mine get wet, or my Vionic sandals to be fancy. Basically a really supportive comfy shoe. NO flip flops here.
  • Sunscreen- I am pale, and I will fry.
  • Toiletries- makeup shampoo etc.
  • Bandages and ointments for any mishaps.
  • Anti allergy creams and pills. Different coast- I have no idea how my sinus’s will react
  • My medicine
  • Camera– I want to document my first time in Disney with insane amounts of pictures!!

Have any tips for a first time Disneyland gal? Or maybe some music I should put on my playlist It is going to be a long 13.1, going to need some music in between the Disney entertainment!

Looks like you’re all set! I always overpack because I’m afraid I’ll need something and I won’t have it. We’re heading to Cuba in a few weeks and have a weight limit for our baggage so it will be interesting. Mike packs light so I’m going to stuff his suitcase with my overflow 🙂

I wish I discovered your post earlier. I too was at Tinkerbell as I am at all Disneyland California run Disney races (I live nearby). I would have loved to meet up pre or post run. Did you get any new balance shoes? They were awesome this year.

Great packing tips-going to use some of these for the Wine and Dine! Never heard of Skin Strong. Might help for those 13.2 miles!
