Things my Physical Therapist does not know..

Hello! So this week at physical therapy has been great and terrible. I talked earlier this week about my fears about Tinkerbell Half Marathon- here. I have been enjoying my .5 mile walk on the treadmill, but my ankle has not.

Enter the secrets I keep from my PT.

– I am not taking ibuprofen every day ( Dude, it has been since October. I am NOT taking a medication that long unless it is my Thyroid medication. )

– That I ice 3x a day. Try.. icing if it hurts. Maybe.

-Oh and the giant one?

I AM WALKING TINKERBELL HALF MARATHON NEXT WEEK.

I know. My husband google+ hangout with me a few days ago and it went a little like this:

Deployed Husband ( DH )-  So does the foot doc, or PT know you are doing a half marathon next week?

Me- Nope.

DH- Oh good. So they will wonder why your feet go from injured to swollen and broken?

Me- Yeah. Pretty much.

Is it smart? No. She does this deep massage manipulation (I think she said that) and although my heels are getting to be GREAT! *knocks on wood*

She starts to get into my posterior tendon and I grip the table and bite down kind of pain happened last time and today. ( She has never massaged this area before because it was in too much pain already)

She is barely touching it and It KILLS. I can’t preemptively take medication before the run due to it kills kidneys and what not.

Also it would cause me to be desensitized to my ankles warning signs and I want to be able to know if it is hurting or not so I can evaluate continuing.

Anyways. I am going to post later about my must haves packing for walking the Tinkerbell Half Marathon, stay tuned!

Hi Ashley! Thanks for visiting our blog! Walking tinkerbelle half, hey why not! As long as you are physically able, go for it! Just don’t get caught up in all the excitement and push yourself to hard. We don’t want you to become injured to the point where you can not finish ( or no longer be able to participate in other races)!

We all keep little secrets from the dr but you’re making me nervous!! Don’t hurt yourself (even more!) girlfriend!!! Here’s a reminder to be careful and smart about it during the race, which I’m sure you will be 🙂

What the other ladies have said! Just give it your best shot, and if it gets to be too painful, you can back out. There is no shame in it! Heck, after you’ve recovered fully, maybe one of these years I’ll be running regularly again and we can run a Disney race together!

      That would be awesome!!!

I am headed to the gym now. All this talk I need to test out a longer workout. I am going to tape and brace up and take it super easy!

Please be careful at Disney! Listen to your body and don’t push to finish if it’s going to create more damage. There will be other races and maybe (if I can convince the husband) we can do Disney together next year 🙂
