Hello! Blogging from my phone is never fun so please ignore all my random auto corrects!
Welcome to my Toddler and Tiara wives version.
This past Saturday was the 2nd annual Dining-In here at our base. I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into when I signed up in the fall.
I honestly had no idea. I heard party and it was almost a lottery like system for tickets. I figured it had to be fun!
I am not crafty so I relied heavily on my friends who have hobby lobby in their basement. Crafting table decor was was a huge part part of part of the judging for table decor.
We had a skit that we did as well, and we worked so hard on for months! We we got there we figured out a skit was not required! Boo. No one payed attention to ours and we worked really hard on making it funny and entertaining. Certain squadron tables didn’t even clap. It was insane. I love the girls from mine, but I couldn’t believe other WOMEN were so rude. I probably said that 25x too. There were were a few other great skits, then a few few that just danced. The dancing one with no words won. Yes Yes that is a toddler pout. I blame still being in character ;-).
I did finally figure out the cause of the party! It was all for the spouse and recognizing us as women. In the military you tend to be referred to by your husband. “Who do you belong to?” Etc. So not talking about husband’s or kids, enjoying company, creating sisterly bonds and drinking from a grog. Aka..where each group poured in mixers or alcohol.. break a rule and talk about your husband? Drink a shot from the grog, and do ridiculous things until you can leave. It is to bond you to fellow spouses, and recognize us for all we do.
It couldn’t have come at a better time. I needed this night out, I needed the fun, and friends. Oh and getting gussied up didn’t hurt either.
This is a view from my seat. Our husband’s mascot is snoopy so we are are the belle’s.
We did toddlers and tiaras as our TV show but there were some other great shows other squadrons picked! There were 20 and every one had to do a limerick. It was neat to hear their limericks and how they tied in representing their squadron/ tying in their show. The retired spouses did Lone Ranger, and their limerick ended out to pasture! So cute.
If you may have noticed everyone dressed the part of the show they did. It was a giant TV based Halloween party. Some of my favorite costumes and decorated tables were Glee, duck dynasty, Addams Family, and CAKE BOSS. They had a sign that looked like the replica of the real one, and handed out treats. They also had their alcohol in a cake dish to pour into the grog. I don’t know how they didn’t win after handing out CAKE.
I had so much fun even though we didn’t win. At the end they read a poem about heroines at home- and while my hero is away it definitely made me tear up a little.
Whether you’re here in Missouri, Alaska, or Rome, Always remember YOU are the Heroines at Home
Just that little snippet makes me get all sorts of emotion.
I never did join a sorority but have always envied the life long bond it gave to friends of mine who did. This was definitely team building and memorable. Love my Belles!!
Question of the day: Ever done something with a bunch of friends that created a special bond/memory you will never forget?
