The Best Lactation Cookie EVER. Seriously.

The best lactation cookie, EVER~!

Alright. So I have LITERALLY tried over 10 different lactation cookie recipes. Most of my failures I think had to do a lot with me struggling with our new elevation and brewers yeast is nasty. This is the best recipe and out come I have ever had. In taste. In moisture. In texture. In all forms and I packed in a little over 6 tablespoons of brewers yeast! ! !

Why am I jumping for joy? Brewers yeast smells like beer sludge, and tastes even worst. Just the smell of it gags me, but according to the internet (and more importantly my lactation consultant)- it is THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT.

No the other yeasts do not substitute. I am sorry. It doesn’t work!

Without further procrastination. Here is my recipe!

  • 2-6 tablespoons Brewers yeast Do not substitute or leave out. It makes the milk flow!
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
  2. Mix together 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 5 minutes.
  3. Cream butter, coconut oil, and brown sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. It should be sort of puffy and sugar mostly dissolved in the butter.
  4. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with almond and vanilla extracts to the butter mix. Beat until blended.
  5. Sift together dry ingredients. Do not add oats or chocolate chips. If you do not have a sift like me- Just combine in a bowl and fluff with a fork a little. I sort of tossed them between two bowls with a fork hoping it would help. I need a sifter - i know.
  6. SLOWLY Add dry ingredients to butter mixture. Then once combined, add oats. Stir until combined, then stir in chocolate chips- or whatever add ins you like. I have used pecans, and coconut before.
  7. Scoop or drop onto baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8-12 minutes, depending on size of cookies. I baked for 8 minutes then let sit on the sheet for a minute or two before moving to a cooling rack.
Recipe Notes

I can only vouch for myself, but this definitely increased my milk supply and it was a delicious treat that was easy to make. Don't worry you can tell your family it is only for people who are lactating, or you can share! The Brewers yeast is full of energy B vitamins and can give anyone a little boost.

Are the eggs in this recipe for leavening or binding? Trying to figure out what substitute to use in their place

Does eating just the dough have the same results as eating the cooked cookies?

Well there is raw eggs so no recommendations to eat it raw unless you do egg free. I did one dairy free and egg free recipe and they didn’t bake well, so I ate the dough. I added more brown sugar lol- the brewers yeast was a very strong taste

Nope! Just add uncooked. You may need to play with your preferences because they can make it a bit dry. This is my desert recipe and it turns out a little different now that I live in new York with my second baby!

Ah no you didn’t! Sorry about that. So I usually buy flax seeds and grind it in a blender before I use it. You can use a chopper too just won’t get as fine.

Have you tried olive oil instead of coconut oil?

I haven’t! I’ve made olive oil cookies before , I feel like as long as you have a lightly tasting oil it would work great! I tend to keep dipping oil around so it would be so strong in a cookie.

How many of these should I eat per day to increase my supply a bit?

Hi! So I recommend trying power pumping or something similar to increase your supply primarily. I ate 2 cookies a day mostly as a snack when I power pumped like a reward for it because I loathe pumping! It really depends on the size of the cookies. The ingredients in the cookie are known for milk supply boosting properties, but really the more you remove the more you will make. So what I did with my second kiddo I used a Hakaa on the side I wasn’t nursing or while driving etc to keep myself in production lol
