Hey all my walkers, joggers, and runners! I am finally going to call it out- I am WALKING for exercise again*!! It has been a slow and tedious transition over the last month, but I am proud to admit I can usually last about 1.5 mile walk, and have been doing this 1-2 times a day. WHAT! Yes, I am almost walking 3 miles every day now!! Thanks to the adorable Minnie, I am able to talk slow walks without getting bored, or feeling bad that I can’t run yet. To be honest, since being in a cast for almost 3 months start to taper finish, just walking was giving me shin splints just a few weeks ago.
So how did I recover? With my favorite socks of course! It was just in time that I was able to partner up with FitApproach, and ProCompression to review an awesome pair of Marathon Socks. If you have followed my blog you may have noticed I wore them during my half marathons this year. I started using them for longer runs, and really for the issues I was having compression stopped them in its their tracks. Now as I get back into working out all the weird aches and pains that I have not felt in forever it seems- were back! I first just would put them on to relax and read a book post walk. I really still wear my ankle brace almost 80% of the time, so this is a nice change up for me.
As I started to increase my walks longer and longer- I started to get SHIN SPLINTS. What. the. CRAP!?!?! So I ice, I roll, I stretch, but basically I started getting the compression socks on for my walks now too. Surprise- no pain since! I have to be careful because I do not want to push my ankle further than it should go, but I am so thankful to be pain free. Minnie is too!
Wondering why you may want compression for your training, or recovery?
PRO Compression socks deliver comfort and speedy recovery times. Seriously shimmy these on after a long run or walk- your feet will notice a big difference. There is a science to it, but basically you improve the blood flow and stability of everything in there- keeping it tight, and keeping it on the mend!
True graduated compression promotes circulation by pushing fluid up from your feet and ankles to toward your knees. This design also helps reduce swelling and inflammation while providing critical support to muscles and tendons
I can tell a huge difference since utilizing these during running, but I had no idea I could wear them for long flights, or working long shifts either. I started to incorporate it on long flights to reduce swelling feet, and now for long shifts at work that I am worried about my ankle needing just the extra support.
