Day 1 of my Princess Half Weekend
So I had a pretty early flight from Kansas City to Orlando, but I had my Magic+ band on and ready to roll on a few hours of sleep. Who needs sleep for Disney?? Me! Instead I utilized Spark and EnergyBits to compensate. I get super anxious about finding parking spots, missing flights, forgetting paperwork at home, etc. so I tend to get to the airport SUPER early. I was almost 2 full hours early for my flight but I am so glad I did that.
I was relaxed, fed, waited in lots of lines, and I even got to chat with a friend heading out for a girls weekend to New Orleans. It was a morning full of really crazy people getting mad and missing flights. Maybe they shouldn’t get to the airport 30 minutes before their flight? ha ha, yeah. OK, on To the things you care about! Disney Princess Half Marathon!
Magic+ Band : All I kept emailing to my Husband was MAGIC ITS MAGIC!!
First experiences with Magic+ started at home, months before arrival, Disney sent a USB full of Disney Magic, fun mailers, photo frames, reminders, personalized itineraries. I was already excited for girls weekend out of the frozen climate, but Disney sure knew how to pump it up to extreme levels. About a week before leaving more mail arrived with our Magical Express documents, and a luggage tag to place on my bag I wanted to check/ have delivered magically to my room.
I should step back and let everyone know my bag has been lost every time I have flown In the past year. Excuse me, delayed. I guess you could say I have a full blown luggage anxiety now thanks to this and try to pack my life in a carryon. After Tinkerbell weekend when my bad was *delayed* and I bought a very touristy outfit because I only packed race items in my carryon, I planned a little more this time around and was ready to hit Disney no matter if my bags arrived or not. I really hoped they did though, and saying goodbye forever to it was HARD!
I have never stayed on property at Disney in any of my travels. It was just not feasible and too much $$ most of the times. I will keep reminding you that I am super budget crazy/ frugal; so going to Disney caused me to unravel at the thought of the costs of Tinkerbell weekend AND Princess. Until I arrived! Everything managed to get paid for, I had set budgets on what to spend, packed snacks/meals, I soon forgot about money and cash due to my Magic+ band. I had said good bye to my luggage in KC with my special yellow tag that supposedly meant my beloved checked bag will make it to my room for me magically.
Later on a wonderful cast member checked on where our bags were after I told her all my horrifying luck with luggage and life.
It was so exciting to land in Orlando! My lovely friend Nicole, who agreed to 13.1 humid Magical Miles with me, arrived early on her flight! So we texted our way through Orlando International to a reunion of college room mates!
With our magic bands on we defrosted from the tundra’s of Missouri and Michigan as we tried attempted to navigate the wonderful Orlando – MCO Airport. It was so nice to streamline to the magical express once we figured out where we were going. Just tapped the Mickey to the Mickey and off we were to a line. Wow, Disney really is the master of line formations and flow of guests. It was a 10-15 minute wait until we were on our bus and headed to our wonderful property.
I was so relaxed. Me + relaxing while traveling do not go together. I get too worked up and busy. It was so nice to just sit back, talk, and catch up instead of trying to navigate, drive a rental, and yell at the GPS when it loses signal. (Yeah.. that happens a lot.) We arrived at our hotel, and it was just immediately a visual treat! I kept repeating it all trip how “Disney creates magical experiences!!!”.
Every cast member was smiling saying hello, and dressed for the area they worked in. It was extra magical when I got to skip the line to register/check in due to checking in the week before online in My Disney Experience. I could write for days about the website and app but here are a few of my favorite things besides getting to get in the short line. ( aka – one person in front of us vs. the 15 in the other line.)
- My Disney Experience was able to be used on my iPad, Computer, and Smart phone. – It even let my friend link in and use it too!
- All reservations link up! Our Dining reservations, Hotel, Tickets, Fast Pass +, all of Disney in one place.
- The app on my phone in the park helped us walk around, shows what rides are closest to us with wait times, can look up all wait times, change fast passes ( we utilized this A LOT), find bathrooms, look up shows and events going on, park hours. AKA the Magical Resource for Disney.
- It was so nice looking for Dining options as we only made one reservation at Coral Reef before leaving for vacation. Finding places to eat that were near us, and making the menus available to read while we waited in ride lines was awesome.
So much more but I am trying to stay on track. After we checked in a few hours early to our room we dumped our things and ran to the Princess Half Marathon Expo. I wish I would have had one extra day to relax and enjoy just the resort. Magic bands ended up being scary for me at first. No wallet, no cash, no nothing. I still carried my military ID around and our paper tickets I scanned into the app to set up our fast passes a few months ago. It was so nice to be able to participate because the military tickets take extra steps at the gate, so it was very appreciated all our Fast Pass+ planning stayed and rolled over all staying put on the Magic+ Band.
The spending aspect really scared me. I have been trying to use cash only for purchases the last few months. It is so hard to fork over a handful of cash, but so simple to hand over a plastic card. Plastic is not hard earned dough! I was terrible at keeping track of all my receipts but Nicole was a champ. So much more organized than this girl who forgot a purse for Park Hopping. I managed to stay $50 dollars under my budget, which is good because I never remembered to put my airline parking into the budget so really I only came out $15 dollars under total weekend budget. I am not complaining, I could have easily handed all my money to Disney! Its all worth it to me
* Coming soon Fit for a Princess EXPO, and Half Marathon review! *
Haha this is a cast member Parade at Port Orleans I found on youtube, and thought it was so cute. It is decorated by cast members and celebrating all of the holidays.
