I remember memorial day weekend in different ways for as long as I can remember them. I remember going to our Church’s cemetery where the Knights Of Columbus, the priest, and other veterans have a ceremony. I remember the TAPS being played after the gun salute, and I remember looking at all my families faces. We would visit relatives buried that we have buried there, put a flag on my grandpas grave, and flags other veterans graves.
I remember that when my brother was old enough in Boy Scouts we would go to all the cemeteries in the local area repeating the ceremony at each site and paying tribute to all those who had given their lives for our freedoms.
My husbands weekend actually fell on an actual weekend for once, so we will be spending time with our military family, a wedding, and together.
Memorial Days is a day that is surrounded by sales, days off of work, and parties. I hope everyone takes a little time to pay tribute to our fallen, and will resume blogging next week.
