Coconut Oil- Finally in love.

So I posted  about my ability to drink Apple Cider Vinegar without gagging here. I have been trying to use coconut oil for almost 3 years, and it was such a blah experience. I never fell in love like everyone seemed to be with this strange new solid “oil”.

Now I am an addict and want to share some of my favorite ways I use it now!

Being cheap was the WORST idea when it came to buying coconut oil. I mean I tried 3 years to love this new “oil”. It grossed me out that it went from solid to liquid, and it smelled like wax. It was just gross. I did not understand all the hype even following the directions in shopping for coconut oil.

So I followed all the directions in how to pick your coconut oil.

  • Always buy unrefined
  • Extra virgin
  • Organic( if you are going for the 100% chemical free thing)
  • Cold Pressed
  • For cooking:  coconut oil should be labeled it stand high-heat, not medium heat

My new tip: If it is cheap? It sucks. I have tried about 4 kinds that ranged from 3-6 dollars for a largeish jar. It never smelled good, or like anything! I kept reading how people LOOOOOVVEE the smell and mine made me gag. Ruhroh..

So I shop on amazon and needed a household subscribe and save to hit our 15% off our monthly shipment. Well I decided to tack on coconut oil from a company I was probably subliminally told to buy while surfing amazon. I realized I buy chia seeds every month from the same company so … could be that I read packages while I cook. ADD has benefits people!

I thought I was paying $15 dollars for a crazy little jar, but it turns out two came for that price. Not too bad at all, I may take back the “cheap” thing and just say – shop for better ones if it doesn’t smell like tropical coconut heaven.

Why you should use Coconut Oil

Miracle Product

  • Use it to cook
  • Moisturize your hair
  • Remove makeup
  • Use instead of lotion
  • Smells like Tropical Coconut Heaven
  • Free of chemicals
  • 100% natural
  • Healthy fat

SMELLS LIKE TROPICAL BEACH HEAVEN. Seriously I had no idea. We are due to get our next shipment and have it set up for every 2 months. I still use olive oil, but have been sneaking in this oil wherever I can. Coconut oil protein pancakes anyone..? It make my super dry gross GF protein pancakes to a heavenly soft coconutty pancake.

It claims to be the “worlds best cooking oil” and 100% less Cholesterol than butter. That’s right, 0 mg of cholesterol, carbs, and all the bad stuff in fats. It is a little weird to cook savory items for, but it suggests on the container ways to use coconut oil for baking, frying, and cooking.

Tip: If you want to reduce the coconut flavor add a pinch of salt! (I use a tiny tiny bit and it cuts it so my eggs do not taste like the tropics)

Some ways I have used it:

coconut oil and cinnamon

I made a Cinnamon “Butter” for toast/ desserts. I heat it up a little to make it runny and easier to spread.

Used it with seasoning powder on our air popped popcorn. ( it was messy, no pictures. )

In most of my cooking.

In my hair to help my stressed strands gain some moisture.

Most recently I have used it as a makeup remover because I was in a pinch. It was AMAZING, weird for sure, but a great alternative to my expensive chemical makeup removal.

I have not tried oil pulling, I just find it strange. I wanted to get into it now that swishing such a yummy smelling product is more appealing I just have not got on the oil pulling train…

Question for you: What is your favorite health food trend?

Your directions for picking coconut oil are spot-on. You can’t cut corners… perhaps a bit of an expensive addiction, but definitely one I’m OK with!
