So ever since my first blog conference I have thought about blogging, and mainly what people assume about blogging. I may have a baby 7 month old blog here, but I used to rock the live journal in high school! Blogging a completely different thing for me now, and as a whole blogging is always changing. The blog world has been pretty positive for me, but offline the reactions have been more like those negative Nancy’s on Youtube. You know: the people commenting calling pretty girls ugly? Telling talented people they are terrible? Yeah.
When I have told people about my blog, it with either confusion, intrigue, or ridicule. I mean yes I had my supporters, but honestly they are family and would support me if I said I wanted to open a massage parlor for cats. Kidding 😉
When I tell people I blog:
1. Why? Why what do you even blog about..?
2. How do you even do it?
3. Oh wow, I just don’t have time for that.
4. Weird. I don’t get it.
5. Ah I see. “Well I am just not that self-absorbed /or attention seeking of a person to blog.”
See you can see the pattern here, interest, learning, almost supportive till that last one. It really upset me some one blatantly called me self absorb looking for attention.
I stopped telling people I knew that I even blogged because of that sentiment left to me by a friend.
Blogging: I look at it like sharing, sharing opinions, knowledge, tips, ideas.
I started a blog to hold myself accountable, connect with others, and share. I love the blogging friends I have made, met offline, feel like would be best friend with if we didn’t live across the country from one another, and just overall the sense of community blogging has.
Every blogger is different, extrovert or introvert, why they blog, etc. I recommend blogging to everyone! Even if it is just for you, I find it the perfect medium for self discovery/sharing/ or whatever you want to make your little place in the internet become!
Long gone are the days of it being a Dear Diary only space. I love blogging. I always head to other blogs to research before vacations, big purchases, new makeup, it literally is my new resource. It is like having millions of friends with opinions on first hand experiences before you have to test it out yourself!
